Montreal has a new player wearing the number 76.
Newly acquired Montreal Canadiens forward Zack Bolduc is set to wear the number 76, previously popularized by fan favorite P.K. Subban.
Bolduc was acquired by Montreal from St. Louis in a trade on Tuesday, in exchange for defenseman Logan Mailloux.
He will be only the third player in the history of the Canadiens franchise to wear number 76, following Jozef Balej (2004) and Subban.
Subban, who played for the Canadiens (Habs) from 2010 to 2016, was the last player to wear that number.
The 22-year-old Bolduc, who comes from Trois-Rivières, Quebec, grew up supporting the Canadiens and felt a mix of emotions upon hearing about the trade.
“When he [Doug Armstrong] informed me he had traded me to the Canadiens, I was slightly surprised,” the forward stated during a Zoom call on Tuesday. “Extremely thrilled, but surprised, because frankly, it`s been a lifelong dream.”
Watching Subban would likely have been part of that childhood dream, as Bolduc`s professional career only began in 2019.
