WTA Rankings Update: Eala Enters Top 100, Raducanu Back in Top 50

Sports News

The latest WTA rankings reflect significant shifts after the Miami Open and recent WTA 125 and ITF events, showcasing both emerging talents and returning stars.

While Aryna Sabalenka and Jessica Pegula hold their positions at No. 1 and No. 4 respectively, the most notable rise within the Top 200 is Alexandra Eala`s. The 19-year-old from the Philippines had an impressive run at the Miami Open, defeating Grand Slam champions to reach her first semifinal.

For Eala, previously a junior Grand Slam champion, this marks her first time winning consecutive main tour matches. Her performance propelled her 65 places up the rankings, from No. 140 to a career-high No. 75, making her Top 100 debut.

Eala`s achievement is historic for the Philippines, as she is the first player from her country to ever break into the Top 100. She has a history of firsts for her nation, including being the first Filipina to compete in and win a WTA main draw match in 2021.

Emma Raducanu also made a significant comeback in Miami. Despite a less successful start to 2024, she reached the quarterfinals, securing her third Top 10 victory against Emma Navarro.

This quarterfinal appearance was Raducanu`s best since her 2021 US Open win, and her first time winning four matches in a row since then. She climbed 12 spots from No. 60 to No. 48, re-entering the Top 50 for the first time since September 2022.

Elina Svitolina also improved her ranking after a strong Sunshine Double, reaching the fourth round in Miami after a quarterfinal in Indian Wells. The Ukrainian player moved up four places to No. 18, returning to the Top 20 since last May.

Several players achieved new career-high rankings, including Americans Ashlyn Krueger and McCartney Kessler, who both impressed in Miami. Krueger defeated Elena Rybakina for her first Top 10 win and reached the fourth round. Kessler reached the third round before an injury.

Krueger is now ranked No. 34 (up from No. 40), and Kessler is at No. 42 (up from No. 48).

In WTA 125 events in Antalya, both champions also reached career highs. Anca Todoni from Romania won her third WTA 125 title and moved up 17 places to No. 83 after recently entering the Top 100.

Olga Danilovic won the second Antalya event without dropping a set, rising six spots to No. 35.

Jaqueline Cristian of Romania won her first WTA 125 title in Puerto Vallarta, climbing 15 places to match her career-high ranking of No. 57.

Teenagers Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva and Linda Fruhvirtova also rebounded in the rankings. Jimenez Kasintseva reached her first WTA 125 final and moved up 21 places to No. 130. Fruhvirtova, after a strong performance in Miami and reaching the final in Puerto Vallarta, jumped 61 places to No. 154.

Other notable ranking movements include Jasmine Paolini reaching a new career high of No. 6, Paula Badosa returning to the Top 10 at No. 9, and Amanda Anisimova reaching a career-high of No. 16.

Elena-Gabriela Ruse re-entered the Top 100 at No. 89, Antonia Ruzic reached a career-high of No. 117, and Rebeka Masarova climbed to No. 134. Tereza Valentova continued her rise to a career-high of No. 170, Arina Rodionova moved to No. 171, Whitney Osuigwe returned to the Top 200 at No. 190, and Carson Branstine made her Top 200 debut at No. 192.

Oleksandra Oliynykova reached a career-high of No. 265, Sada Nahimana moved to No. 286, Kaja Juvan climbed to No. 518 in her comeback, and junior player Teodora Kostovic reached a new career high of No. 624.
