A concerning incident occurred when a fan rushed towards Erling Haaland, but a quick-thinking coach acted as a human shield.
The Manchester City forward, Haaland, was celebrating a successful night after scoring in Norway`s 5-0 victory against Moldova in a World Cup qualifier.
The game`s positive result was marred by unsettling scenes in the second half after Haaland was substituted in the 78th minute.
As he watched the remainder of the match from the bench, a fan invaded the pitch and headed towards the Norway team area.
The intruder sprinted towards the Norway bench, and it appeared he was reaching into his pocket as he approached.
Haaland was seated closest to the approaching man when Brede Hangeland intervened and stopped him.
Hangeland, formerly a defender and now Norway`s assistant coach, physically intervened, pulling the fan away from Haaland.
Security personnel then arrived and removed the individual, who continued to struggle.
Witnessing fans described the event as “terrifying” and “scary”.
Brede Hangeland is well-known to football fans, having played for Fulham for seven seasons, making 270 appearances between 2008 and 2014.
He is considered a hero at Fulham`s Craven Cottage, having played a key role in their Europa League final appearance during his time there.
Before retiring in 2016, Hangeland also had a brief stint with Crystal Palace.
Norway`s next match is against Israel on Tuesday night.
