Winnipeg fans had a memorable reaction during Game 5 on Thursday night against the Dallas Stars after a goal scored by the Jets was overturned.
Mark Scheifele found the net for what appeared to be his second goal late in the second period. However, the goal was immediately disallowed because Scheifele was deemed to have directed the puck into the net with his hand, not his stick.
Despite the clear ruling on the play, the crowd in Winnipeg responded with a loud and unified chant of `should have kicked it` as the final seconds of the period wound down.
This chant directly referenced a controversial incident from Game 3 of the series. In that game, Alex Petrovic of the Stars scored a goal that appeared to involve a kicking motion towards the net. Following an extensive review, the NHL ultimately allowed Petrovic`s goal to stand, stating that Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck had `propelled` the puck in.
It`s evident that the Jets fans were unhappy with the prior decision regarding the kicked puck and have not forgotten it.
