Former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker shared his thoughts on a potential matchup between Jack Della Maddalena and Islam Makhachev.
Whittaker suggested that Islam Makhachev would likely employ tactics similar to those used by Belal Muhammad against Della Maddalena, but execute them more effectively. He posed the key question: “If Volkanovski could land strikes on Islam, Della Maddalena certainly has the ability to do so as well.”
He noted that Della Maddalena`s preference for fighting at close range makes him susceptible to takedowns, an area where Makhachev significantly surpasses Muhammad. Whittaker added that Islam is also tactically superior. Ultimately, Whittaker concluded on the MMArcade podcast, “What does all this mean? I don’t have an answer.”
