Manchester United`s renowned writer, Wayne Barton, has spoken about the challenges he is facing as he prepares to launch his new, deeply personal book, following his redundancy by Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

With 20 published books, Barton has earned high regard from key figures at United. Former chairman Martin Edwards recognized him as the club`s “pre-eminent writer”.

Barton`s connection with Manchester United is extensive, including a role as an editorial consultant for the club from January 2023 until recently.

He described himself as becoming “one of the statistics” in the second wave of job cuts initiated by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the club`s minority shareholder.

Barton expressed his heartbreak on social media upon announcing his dismissal, while also acknowledging other staff members who were also made redundant.

As he gears up for the release of his latest book, “Football, Taught By Matt Busby” on Thursday, he shared on social media that he is currently in a “low place.”

He described the past six weeks as “heartbreaking” and conveyed his gratitude for the overwhelming support received from his readers.

In a tweet, Barton wrote about his current emotional state on the eve of his book launch, a book of great personal significance to him.

He admitted that he hasn`t fully processed the events of the last six weeks and feels “heartbroken” and “damaged in confidence.” He also expressed concern about promoting his book while dealing with these feelings.

Barton apologized in advance for self-promotion and asked for patience, indicating that he is navigating personal struggles during this promotional period.

He concluded by expressing immense gratitude for the support he receives, the privilege of being published, and other blessings in his life.

Last summer, Manchester United made 250 staff redundant in a significant cost-cutting measure under Ratcliffe.

Recently, another 150 to 200 positions were cut as part of the club`s transformation plan, which included changes such as ending free lunches.
