The Washington Capitals have officially signed forward Justin Sourdif to a two-year contract valued at $1.65 million, the team announced Saturday. This move follows the team`s earlier acquisition of Sourdif via trade in June.
Sourdif was acquired by the Capitals on Thursday in a transaction with the Florida Panthers. The deal involved sending a 2026 second-round draft pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick to Florida.
During the 2024–25 season, the 23-year-old forward played for the Charlotte Checkers, the AHL affiliate of the Florida Panthers. He registered 34 points, consisting of 16 goals and 18 assists, over 43 regular-season games.
He also made a significant contribution in the playoffs, tallying 10 points (four goals, six assists) across 18 appearances as the Checkers advanced to the Calder Cup Final before ultimately falling to the Abbotsford Canucks in six games.
In his AHL career to date, Sourdif has participated in 149 games, accumulating a total of 96 points, including 35 goals and 61 assists.
The Richmond, B.C., native has also appeared in four National Hockey League games so far, including one appearance this past season where he notched his first career NHL goal.
Justin Sourdif was originally selected by the Florida Panthers in the third round, 87th overall, during the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.
