Ruben Amorim gave academy defender Tyler Fredricson his first start against Wolverhampton.
The Manchester United manager made five changes to the lineup after the dramatic 5-4 victory over Lyon on Thursday.
The most significant change was the introduction of Fredricson into the defensive line, partnering with 20-year-old Victor Lindelof in central defense.
Fredricson, who is 6ft tall, won the FA Youth Cup with United in 2022 and has represented England at the under-17 and under-18 levels.
This year, he was included in Manchester United`s first team squad and has been on the bench twice this season.
Fredricson has been called up to United`s senior squad before, including for the Europa League in 2022 alongside Cristiano Ronaldo.
He also interacts with first-team stars like Kobbie Mainoo, with whom he posed on Instagram.
Other photos showcase Fredricson`s personal life, including exotic vacations and fine dining, with one picture showing his love for lobsters.
Manchester United defeated Lyon in the Europa League quarter-finals thanks to late goals from Mainoo and Harry Maguire.
Amorim warned of changes to the lineup before the match against Wolverhampton at Old Trafford.
Leny Yoro and Maguire were replaced by Lindelof and Fredricson, and Harry Amass also made the starting lineup.
Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes, and Diogo Dalot also made way, with Christian Eriksen and Mainoo coming into the team.
Amorim stated, `We needed to evaluate all the players. It`s not just about the last game, which lasted 120 minutes, but also the games before it. We had less than 72 hours for rotation to try and use all the players we have available and try to recover some injured ones. For example, Luke Shaw. In my opinion, Shaw was meant to play around 30 minutes, considering the issues we had with Victor (Lindelof) and Noussair (Mazraoui), and then extra time. He did a very good job but played a lot of minutes, so he needs to feel that load, rest now, and we will train for the next game. We try to assess all players and choose the starting XI to win the game.`
About Fredricson, he said, `He is really composed, very humble, and in every training session with the first team, he is truly focused on every detail. He is very good on the ball, and this is a good opportunity for him.`
