UFC lightweight contender Arman Tsarukyan recently shared his thoughts on why the promotion`s current featherweight champion, Islam Makhachev, might not be eager to face Ilia Topuria.
Tsarukyan suggested that a potential reason for Makhachev`s reluctance is the public perception following such a victory. Quoting a sentiment he attributed to Makhachev, Tsarukyan stated, “Islam doesn’t want to fight Ilia because if he beats him, people will say, `You beat a welterweight again.`” He further added his belief that a fight between himself and Makhachev would represent the culmination of Makhachev`s involvement in the lightweight division.
