Reports indicate Tottenham Hotspur player Son Heung-min alerted authorities in South Korea after a man and a woman allegedly attempted to extort him.
The football star was reportedly contacted by a woman who falsely claimed she was expecting his child.
Police in Seoul confirmed they have arrested a woman in her twenties on suspicion of extortion.
A man has also been apprehended, facing charges of attempted extortion. The duo is accused of demanding money from Son to keep the false pregnancy claim quiet.
Son, 32, who is not married and has no children, reportedly filed a police complaint about the matter last week.
The individuals reportedly tried to extort hundreds of millions of Korean won from the Tottenham captain.
Son`s legal representatives stated that the woman`s claim of being pregnant with his child was made last June.
While Son has previously been linked to Korean pop stars Bang Min-ah and Yoo So-young, he has publicly stated his intention to delay marriage and starting a family until after his football career concludes.
He was quoted in 2019 as saying: “My father says this and I agree, as well. When you marry, the number one will be family, wife and kids, and then football. You don’t know how long you can play at the top level. When you retire, or when you are 33 or 34, you can still have a long life with your family.”
