Tortorella Shoulders Blame After Flyers Lose to Maple Leafs: ‘This Falls on Me’

NHL

Philadelphia Flyers coach John Tortorella is taking responsibility as the team`s losing streak continues.

The Flyers suffered a significant 7-2 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday, marking their league-worst record of 1-8-1 in the last 10 games.

After the game, Tortorella told reporters that it is his duty to prepare the team for such situations, admitting he has not adequately done so in the recent games.

`This falls on me,` Tortorella stated. `I am not interested in learning how to coach during this type of season where we are currently at, but I need to perform better.`

`Therefore, it is my responsibility to ensure the team is prepared to play correctly until the season concludes.`

Tortorella ranks ninth in all-time coaching wins and led the Tampa Bay Lightning to the Stanley Cup in 2004. However, the Flyers have yet to reach the playoffs in his three seasons as head coach.

The Flyers, with a 28-36-5 record, are currently 10 points away from a wild-card spot with only nine games remaining in the regular season.

Philadelphia will play their next game at home against the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday.
