Topuria on Facing Oliveira for Lightweight Title: “It’s a pity that Makhachev ran away”

MMA

Former UFC featherweight champion Ilia Topuria has made comments following the official announcement regarding UFC 317.

It has been confirmed that the main event scheduled for June 28 in Las Vegas, USA, will see Topuria square off against Charles Oliveira. The fight is set to be for the vacant lightweight championship. The title became available after Islam Makhachev reportedly decided to move up to the welterweight division to challenge the new champion, Jack Della Maddalena.

Reacting to the fight booking, Topuria posted on X (formerly Twitter): “`On June 28, another dream will come true. I will become the champion in the lightweight division. Charles, I apologize in advance… I am just fighting for my dream. It’s a pity that Makhachev ran away. 17-0.`”
