Anca Todoni, the No. 6 seed, celebrated her third WTA 125 career victory by overcoming Leyre Romero Gormaz with scores of 6-3, 6-2 in the Megasaray Hotels Open Antalya 1 final. The match lasted for 1 hour and 26 minutes.
This marks the third WTA 125 trophy for the 20-year-old Romanian in 2024, following her wins in Bari in June and Santa Cruz in October. Notably, all her titles at this level have been on clay courts.
Todoni, who recently entered the Top 100 at No. 100, has revitalized her 2025 season with this title. After a promising start in Australia, including her first WTA 500 main-draw win in Brisbane and qualifying for the Australian Open, she faced a setback with only one win in her subsequent five matches, failing to qualify in Linz, Cluj-Napoca, Merida, and Indian Wells.
Her Antalya journey seemed uncertain when she lost the first set to Panna Udvardy in the opening round. However, Todoni rallied to win 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. She repeated this comeback in the quarterfinals against No. 3 seed Arantxa Rus, winning 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-2. In the final, Todoni`s dominant serve was key, landing 67% of her first serves and winning 71% of those points, complemented by aggressive baseline play.
Ranked No. 157, Romero Gormaz had an impressive run to her first WTA 125 final. The 22-year-old Spaniard defeated No. 8 seed Wei Sijia 6-4, 6-4 in the first round and navigated a challenging path against rising stars Ella Seidel and Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva, before defeating Maja Chwalinska 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the semifinals.
Clara Burel, formerly ranked No. 42, made her return to competition in Antalya after a three-month break. In her first tournament of the season, the French player beat No. 7 seed Nuria Parrizas Diaz 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 in the first round and reached the semifinals. She had to retire against Todoni at 6-2, 3-2 due to a lower back injury.
The tournament`s top two seeds were eliminated in the first round. No. 1 seed Emiliana Arango lost to Chloe Paquet 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 after leading by a set and a break, while Veronika Erjavec upset No. 2 seed Diane Parry 7-5, 6-4.
Chwalinska compensated for her singles semifinal defeat by winning the doubles title with Anastasia Detiuc. They defeated Jesika Maleckova and Miriam Skoch 4-6, 6-3, [10-2] in the final. This is their second title together, following their win at the Stare Splavy ITF W75 event last year, but their first at the WTA 125 level. For Chwalinska, it was her third WTA 125 doubles title, and for Detiuc, her second.
