TJ Brodie Passes Waivers, Blackhawks Could Pursue Buyout

TJ Brodie successfully cleared waivers on Sunday. This development gives the Chicago Blackhawks the opportunity to buy out his contract.

The 35-year-old defenseman signed a two-year contract worth $7.5 million with the Blackhawks during the previous off-season`s free agency period.

Data indicates that a buyout of Brodie`s contract would result in a salary cap charge of $3.23 million for the 2025-26 season, decreasing significantly to $258,000 for the 2026-27 season.

Last season, Brodie played in 54 games, scoring two goals and adding 10 points, averaging 15 minutes and 37 seconds of ice time per contest.

Over his 15-season NHL career with the Calgary Flames, Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Blackhawks, the player from Chatham, Ontario, has accumulated 58 goals and a total of 358 points across 962 games played.

Teams have until June 30 to complete contract buyouts.
