Pep Guardiola has strongly criticized Manchester United fans for what he deemed “shameful” chants directed at Phil Foden’s mother.

During the game at Old Trafford, sections of the home crowd were heard chanting offensive words about Phil Foden`s mother.

City manager Guardiola commented, “It was a display of poor class.”

“In football, we are very much in the public eye – managers, owners, and especially players.”

Sources within City expressed their shock and disgust at the chants, highlighting both the number of fans involved and how frequently they repeated the abusive remarks about Foden’s mother, Claire.

Guardiola added, “I cannot comprehend the mentality of individuals who would involve Phil`s mother in their chants.”

“It demonstrates a lack of integrity, class, and those responsible should feel ashamed.”

The Spaniard also acknowledged his bewilderment at Manchester City’s unexpected decline in performance.

They currently hold fifth position in the league, trailing Chelsea by one point, and are still struggling to secure a Champions League qualification.

Guardiola is finding it difficult to understand the reasons behind the rapid and significant downturn for the team that previously won four consecutive Premier League titles.

Foden is not the only player whose performance has dipped, despite beginning the season as a two-time Player of the Year.

Guardiola admitted, “This season, our level has noticeably decreased. This is true not only for Phil Foden but for the entire team.”

`Gary Neville`s having a proper meltdown` – Fans fear for Man Utd icon after he apologises for his derby co-commentary

“Last season, his contribution was remarkable. Usually, with him and the opportunities created, it’s a quick goal. But that`s not happening right now.

“However, the team as a whole is not performing at the level we previously achieved. And we were not at our best in this particular match.”

Meanwhile, Manchester United`s manager, Ruben Amorim, dismissed the complaints made by former Red Devils player Gary Neville, who suggested that the post-match friendly interactions between players indicated that “both teams were content with a 0-0 draw.”

Amorim now needs to secure victories in their remaining seven matches to surpass United’s lowest Premier League points total of 58, which was recorded in 2021-22.

He stated, “I understand Gary Neville is always critical.”

“I am aware that we are experiencing our worst season in history.”

“I am not oblivious or irrational; I am aware of our current situation. We must demonstrate urgency to improve because time is limited at a club of this stature. We are in a hurry.”

Over 1,000 United supporters conducted a sit-in protest lasting more than 30 minutes, targeting the Glazer family, the club`s owners, and increases in ticket prices.

Additionally, around 500 fans protested after being informed of the need to relocate their seats to accommodate a new premium tunnel club for the upcoming season.
