Serena Williams makes a Met Gala entrance … after ‘one meltdown’

Sports News

Serena Williams’s late-night tweet on X on Monday hinted at some pre-event drama:

“And after one meltdown,” she posted, “we`re finally heading to the Met Gala.”

What exactly the “meltdown” involved was not revealed (and let’s keep in mind the 23-time Grand Slam singles champion is also a mother of two!), but fashion critics universally agreed that the wait for her appearance was worthwhile.

Williams, now aged 43, made a significant impact at the Metropolitan Museum of Art`s annual fashion gathering in New York City. She stepped before the cameras in a stunning, pale-blue gown featuring a daring sheer panel along the leg, paired with a satin, silver cape designed in a duvet-like style. For her seventh attendance at the Met Gala, she partnered with the renowned Italian luxury brand Moncler.

Her attire was, predictably, a bespoke creation, designed by Edward Enninful, the former editor-in-chief of British Vogue, who accompanied Williams on the blue carpet. The dress showcased a fitted silhouette with an elegant off-the-shoulder neckline. The long skirt was adorned with a sheer abstract insert, incorporating fine metallic threads to produce a shimmering effect. A lengthy, light blue cape, characteristic of Moncler’s puffer style, completed the ensemble and was draped around Williams’ wrists to complement the gown’s design.

Williams showcased a remarkably chic golden bob hairstyle, styled by Angela Meadows into finger waves popular in the 1920s. Her accessories included exquisite Fred Leighton angel wing earrings with diamond drops, along with coordinating barrette, bracelet, and rings.

She remarked that she felt like a modern-day Cinderella.

Later, she shared with her followers, “Clearly, the highlight of my night was Rihanna. It’s widely known how much I admire her. She is so stunning – quite literally the most gorgeous person. I am utterly obsessed with her.”

“And also, Pharrell telling me, ‘Stop caring what people say.’”
