Serena Williams Arrives at Met Gala Following Pre-Event ‘Meltdown’

Sports News

Serena Williams hinted at some pre-Met Gala drama with a late tweet on X. “And one meltdown later,” she posted, “we are finally on the way to the Met Gala.”

What caused this “meltdown” remains unknown, though it`s worth remembering that the tennis icon, a 23-time Grand Slam winner, is also a mother of two. Regardless of any pre-event stress, fashion experts widely agreed her appearance was well worth the wait.

At 43, Williams made a significant impact at the annual fashion event at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. She arrived wearing a striking icy pale-blue gown featuring a bold sheer panel down the leg, complemented by a silver satin cape styled like a duvet. This marked her seventh time attending the Met Gala, this year in partnership with the Italian luxury brand Moncler.

Her ensemble was a bespoke creation by former British Vogue editor-in-chief Edward Enninful, who joined her on the blue carpet. The gown showcased a fitted silhouette with an off-the-shoulder neckline. Its long skirt incorporated a sheer, abstract panel woven with fine metallic threads, giving it a shimmering effect. A long cape in Moncler`s characteristic light blue puffer style completed the outfit, draped elegantly around Williams` wrists.

For her hair, Williams sported a stylish golden bob styled in classic 1920s finger waves, created by Angela Meadows. Her accessories included Fred Leighton jewelry: striking angel wing diamond drop earrings, a matching barrette, bracelet, and rings.

Williams herself felt her look evoked a modern-day Cinderella.

Later, she shared her favorite moments from the night with her followers. “The highlight of my night, obviously, was Rihanna,” she said. “It`s no secret that I love her. She`s so gorgeous — literally like the most gorgeous. I`m obsessed with her.” Another memorable interaction was with Pharrell, who told her, “Stop caring what people say.”
