
The Ottawa Senators have reached an agreement with defenceman Tyler Kleven on a two-year contract extension valued at $3.2 million in total. The team officially announced the signing on Monday.
Kleven was scheduled to become a restricted free agent when the market opens on July 1.
The 23-year-old player, who hails from Fargo, North Dakota, recorded 10 points during the recent regular season, scoring four goals and adding six assists over 79 games. He averaged 14 minutes and 28 seconds of ice time per contest.
Additionally, he participated in all six playoff games for the Senators in the first-round series against the Toronto Maple Leafs, contributing two assists in that span.
General Manager Steve Staios commented on Kleven`s performance in a team release, stating, “Tyler continued to elevate his game in his first NHL season, which was a good sign. We expect his game will continue to develop.”
Kleven was originally selected by the Senators in the second round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, 44th overall.
Throughout his career in Ottawa, spanning three seasons, he has accumulated 13 points (four goals and nine assists) across 96 NHL games.
The contract carries an annual average value (cap hit) of $1.6 million.
