Roy Keane Jokes De Bruyne Should Join Manchester United

Football pundit Roy Keane lightheartedly proposed that Kevin De Bruyne should join Manchester United when his contract with Manchester City concludes this summer.

De Bruyne, aged 33, confirmed his intention to depart City upon the expiration of his current deal.

The Belgian midfielder has made 34 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side across all competitions this season, contributing five goals and eight assists.

However, after playing 416 matches for City over a decade, De Bruyne appears ready to seek a new challenge.

Speaking on Sky Sports before City’s significant match against Aston Villa in the race for Champions League qualification, Keane humorously suggested De Bruyne remain in Manchester but make a move westwards to Old Trafford.

Keane quipped: “United? He wouldn't have to move house,” in response to fellow Sky pundit Shay Given suggesting De Bruyne “can turn up at another Premier League club and that is a concern for City.”

Following City’s 2-0 victory over Everton on Saturday, De Bruyne discussed his future with the media, revealing it was “a little bit of a shock” that the reigning Premier League champions had not presented him with a new contract offer.

He maintained that he could still “perform at this level like I’m showing”, clarifying that he was “open for anything” regarding his next career step.

Reports have previously linked him with transfers to Major League Soccer and the Saudi Pro League. There are also whispers that De Bruyne might join another Premier League team.

Keane still believes De Bruyne possesses the necessary quality to punish opponents when given the opportunity.

He commented: “We know how ruthless Man City can be at a certain age.

“Give him time on the ball and he will punish you, all he needs is a moment.

“As much as you try and stop him, you can't in certain areas.”
