Yoel Romero, a respected veteran in the world of mixed martial arts, recently shared his perspective on former UFC featherweight champion Ilia Topuria`s potential transition to the lightweight division.
Speaking on his podcast, Romero expressed strong confidence in Topuria`s prospects at 155 pounds. “Topuria was very powerful as a featherweight, and at lightweight, he will be nearly unbeatable,” Romero stated. He emphasized Topuria`s ability to undergo significant weight cuts (dropping from 82 kg to 66 kg) as an indication of his potential size and strength when competing closer to his walking weight at 70 kg. Romero predicted Topuria would maintain his speed, reaction time, and endurance in the higher weight class. “Ilia`s moment has arrived,” Romero concluded. “He is someone who will be exceptionally difficult to overcome in the lightweight ranks.”
In related news, Topuria himself announced the commencement of his training camp last week. According to circulating rumors, he is anticipated to compete at UFC 317, which is reportedly scheduled for late June in Las Vegas.
