The European clay court season on the Hologic WTA Tour began last week. Jelena Ostapenko secured her ninth career title at the WTA 500 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart. Elina Svitolina won her 18th title at the WTA 250 Open Rouen Capfinances Métropole event.
Ostapenko began 2025 ranked No. 17, but her ranking dropped to No. 37 in February. However, after reaching the Doha final and winning in Stuttgart, she has bounced back. In Stuttgart, Ostapenko defeated World No. 2 Iga Swiatek and World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka. This is Ostapenko`s second clay court title and her first since her 2017 Roland Garros victory, which was also her first career title.
This week, she moves up six places to No. 18, returning to the Top 20.
Interestingly, Ostapenko has a perfect record against Top 10 players this year (4-0) but a losing record against players outside the Top 10 (8-9).
For Svitolina, the Rouen title marks her second title since returning from maternity leave. Both titles have been on French clay, with the other being Strasbourg 2023. Svitolina`s finals record is now 18-4, and she rises one position to No. 17.
Danilovic Achieves New Career High as Rouen Finalist
Olga Danilovic first entered the Top 100 in September 2018 at 17 years old, after winning the Moscow River Cup. She spent five weeks in the Top 100 before dropping out, and it took her five more years to return.
However, the last year has been Danilovic`s most consistent period. She reached the fourth round of the French Open last year and the Australian Open in January. She also won her second title in Guangzhou last October and reached the Rouen final last week, her fourth tour-level final.
This Rouen run extended Danilovic`s winning streak to nine matches. She then lost to Svitolina in the final. She climbs five places to a career-high ranking of No. 34 this week.
Navarro Re-enters Top 10, Rybakina Drops Out
Emma Navarro is back in the Top 10 after briefly falling out three weeks ago. The American moves up one spot to No. 10 after reaching the second round in Stuttgart.
Navarro and Elena Rybakina exchange places. Rybakina, who did not defend her Stuttgart title from 2024, falls one place to No. 11. This is Rybakina`s first time outside the Top 10 since January 2023.
Seidel and Rakotomanga Rajaonah Shine at Home
Two players born in 2005 achieved notable results at home last week. In Stuttgart, German Ella Seidel, a lucky loser, won against veteran Tatjana Maria to reach the second round. Seidel rises 13 places to a career-high No. 111.
Two weeks prior, Varvara Gracheva was the only French player in the Top 100, a 44-year low. Tiantsoa Rakotomanga Rajaonah`s performance in Rouen provided optimism. The 19-year-old French player qualified for her first WTA main draw and achieved her first two Top 100 wins against Lucia Bronzetti and Jaqueline Cristian to reach the quarterfinals.
Rakotomanga Rajaonah jumps 45 places from No. 291 to a career-high No. 245. The next highest-ranked French teenager is Astrid Lew Yan Foon at No. 490.
