Perry’s Historic Late Equalizer Forces Overtime in Stanley Cup Final

NHL

If the drama from Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final wasn`t enough, the Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers have decided to deliver a series for the ages.

Corey Perry provided breathtaking late-game heroics in Friday night`s contest, tying the high-scoring game at 4-4 and forcing overtime with just seventeen seconds remaining.

This crucial moment occurred with the Oilers` net empty. Perry skated towards the center of the Panthers` zone; a loose puck landed near him after a rebound, and he seized the opportunity, wiring the puck through traffic to beat Florida Panthers goalie Sergei Bobrovsky on the blocker side.

This dramatic goal also set a new record. The 40-year-old former Stanley Cup champion scored the latest game-tying goal in Stanley Cup Final history, surpassing the previous mark set by Tod Sloan of the Toronto Maple Leafs back in 1951.
