Panthers’ Sam Bennett sets NHL record for single-playoff road goals

NHL

Florida Panthers forward Sam Bennett has earned a notable distinction during his team`s playoff journey, establishing himself as a true “Road Warrior.” He recently etched his name into the NHL record books for scoring the most road goals in a single postseason.

Bennett reached this historic achievement by netting his 12th road goal during Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Edmonton Oilers on Friday night.

The record-breaking goal occurred during the first period while the Panthers were on the power play. Bennett, known for his competitive and gritty playing style, found open ice in the offensive zone and capitalized by burying a simple one-timer, which served as his team`s opening goal of the game.

This tally marked Bennett`s 13th goal overall in the 2025 playoffs. Impressively, 12 of these goals have been scored in just 12 away games. Through 19 playoff appearances, Bennett has accumulated a total of 13 goals and 19 points.

With his 12th road goal, Bennett surpassed the previous record of 11, which was held by Winnipeg Jets forward Mark Scheifele. Scheifele set his record during the 2018 playoffs, scoring 11 road goals in eight away games, and finished that playoff run with 14 goals in 17 total contests.

Bennett`s scoring production has seen a significant surge under the high pressure of the playoffs compared to the regular season. His goals-per-game average dramatically increased from 0.33 in the regular season (where he recorded 25 goals and 51 points over 76 games) to 0.67 coming into Game 2 of the Final.

Beyond Bennett`s individual success, the Panthers as a team have been exceptionally effective when playing away from home this postseason. In Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final, Florida set an NHL team record for the most away goals scored in a single playoff year, reaching a total of 51 and surpassing the previous mark held by the 1993 Los Angeles Kings. Florida holds an impressive 8-3 record in road games throughout this playoff run.
