While the Edmonton Oilers are currently competing intensely for the Stanley Cup, the team is simultaneously planning for the future by adding promising talent.
The Oilers organization announced on Saturday they have officially signed forward Viljami Marjala to a two-year entry-level contract.
Marjala, who is 22 years old, has spent his last three seasons playing hockey in his native Finland. During this period, he participated in 129 games, recording a total of 29 goals and contributing 72 assists.
Standing six-foot-one and weighing 180 pounds, the forward was a key offensive player for TPS Turku last season, leading the team with 52 points, which included an impressive 44 assists.
Marjala was originally drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the fifth round of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft after spending two seasons playing in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL).
