With the conclusion of the conference semifinals, teams that didn`t advance are now looking towards the future.
The NHL announced Monday the final draft order for picks 1 through 28, confirming the spots for the 12 teams eliminated from the playoffs.
Following the May draft lottery which set picks 1-16, selections 17-28 were decided based on elimination timing, regular-season point totals, and divisional standing.
Non-division winners were ranked in inverse order of regular-season points. The four division winners eliminated in the second round then followed, also ranked by inverse regular-season points.
The four division winners (Toronto Maple Leafs, Washington Capitals, Winnipeg Jets, and Vegas Golden Knights) were all eliminated in Round 2, positioning them at picks 25-28 based on inverse regular-season points.
The remaining four picks (29-32) will be determined by the outcomes of the conference finals and Stanley Cup Final. Pick 29 goes to the conference final loser with the fewest regular-season points, pick 30 to the other conference final loser. The Stanley Cup Final runner-up gets pick 31, and the champion gets the 32nd and final pick.
The conference finals are scheduled to begin Tuesday with Florida vs. Carolina, followed by Edmonton vs. Dallas on Wednesday.
