Morrissey says knee injury would’ve sidelined him for rest of Jets’ playoff run

NHL

Winnipeg Jets defenseman Josh Morrissey confirmed that the left knee injury he sustained would have prevented him from playing for the remainder of the team`s playoff run, even if they had advanced. Speaking during the team`s season-ending media availability, Morrissey stated that the issue won`t require surgery, which is good news despite the frustrating timing.

Morrissey described feeling the injury immediately after getting tangled with Dallas Stars forward Mikko Rantanen late in the second period of Saturday`s game. He called the situation “frustrating,” recognizing the severity right away.

The top blue-liner reflected on a season marred by various physical setbacks. He mentioned getting sick during the Four Nations tournament, sustaining an injury in Game 7 of the first playoff round, and then suffering the “freak injury” in Game 6 of the second round against Dallas.

“It was just frustrating, frustrating this year that those situations happen,” Morrissey commented. However, he emphasized a resilient mindset: “But you can feel sorry for yourself, or unlucky, or whatever you want, but it is what it is. You just got to go back to work and continue to get better and prepare for next season and be ready for those moments when I get a chance to be in them again.”

Morrissey also disclosed that he missed Game 1 against Dallas due to being under concussion protocol, following a hit he took in the Jets` Game 7 victory over the St. Louis Blues in the previous round.
