Just as the Edmonton Oilers are losing one key player to injury, another important member of the team is making his way back.
The team confirmed on Thursday that defenseman Mattias Ekholm is projected to return to the lineup for Game 5 of the Western Conference Final series against the Dallas Stars.
Ekholm participated in the morning skate on Thursday, practicing on a defensive pairing with Evan Bouchard. This follows the news that winger Zach Hyman is likely out for the season, with Corey Perry stepping into his spot.
Ekholm has been out of action since mid-April due to injury, making Thursday night his first game in the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Before his injury, he registered nine goals and 33 points during the regular season. Over his career in 112 playoff games, the veteran defenseman has recorded 12 goals and 52 points.
