Matias Maccelli still possesses the ability to produce points in the NHL, and the Finnish winger is keen to demonstrate this with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Acquired by the Leafs from the Utah Mammoth last month, the 24-year-old Maccelli spoke with Toronto media for the first time on Monday.
Reflecting on his performance, he stated, “It comes down to ice time and opportunity kind of with the points. It wasn`t obviously the best year for myself (last season). But I still know I`m a better player than I was … I`ve got it still in me. Now, I`ve just got to show people that again.”
Last season in Utah saw a decline in Maccelli`s statistical output. He recorded eight goals and 10 assists for a total of 18 points across 55 games, with an average ice time of 13:44.
In contrast, his most productive NHL season occurred the year prior (2023-24) with Arizona, where he notched 17 goals and 40 assists, accumulating 67 points in 82 games while averaging 16:14 of ice time. In his inaugural full NHL season in 2022-23, also for Arizona, Maccelli registered 49 points (11 goals, 38 assists) over 64 games with an average TOI of 15:41.
