The cherished Masters Par 3 Contest, a tradition loved by many, celebrated its 63rd year.
Since its inception in 1960, with Sam Snead as the first winner, this contest offers a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. Participants, including past Masters champions, are invited to play a specially designed nine-hole course that`s shorter than usual. It`s common to see golfers accompanied by family, friends, or even celebrities acting as their caddies, adding to the fun.
Despite the lighthearted nature, the spirit of competition is still present among the players.
Throughout the contest`s history, an impressive 112 holes-in-one have been achieved. Just in 2024, five remarkable holes-in-one were recorded by Luke List, Gary Woodland, Sepp Straka, Lucas Glover, and Viktor Hovland.
A well-known superstition adds an interesting twist: players who are serious contenders for the Masters tournament itself might intentionally avoid winning the Par 3 Contest. The superstition says that no one who has ever won the Par 3 Contest has gone on to win the Masters in the same year.
