What`s next for Mitch Marner and John Tavares?

Following the Toronto Maple Leafs` 6-1 loss to the Florida Panthers in Game 7 of the second-round playoff series, forwards Mitch Marner and John Tavares, who are eligible to become unrestricted free agents on July 1, were asked about their future plans.

When asked if he wanted to return, Tavares replied simply: `Yes.`

“It has meant everything to me,” said Tavares. His seven-year contract, signed with his hometown team in 2018, expires this summer. “It was a big decision I made seven years ago, and I`ve really enjoyed it. It`s been a wonderful time for me and my family. We have to take responsibility: we couldn`t advance further and play well enough to achieve our goal.”

Meanwhile, when asked about his future with the Leafs, Marner did not give a definitive answer. His six-year contract also expires this summer.
