This result puts them in 13th place, just one point ahead of Tottenham.

United is also four points behind 12th-place Brentford and seven points away from the top half of the table.

Their hopes for European competition now likely depend on their performance in the Europa League.

So, who played well at Old Trafford?

And who had a bad game?

Here are SunSport’s Ken Lawrence’s Man United player ratings…

ANDRE ONANA – 5

Questions remain about Onana`s consistency, but he had a calmer game this time.

He made a good save to push away Casemiro`s header from a City corner that was heading towards his own goal.

His shot-stopping was solid, even though City`s attack wasn`t very strong without Erling Haaland.

However, one save from Omar Marmoush seemed unnecessary and for show.

André Onana's game statistics: 0 goals conceded, 14 accurate passes, 6 saves, 0 punches, 25 passes, and 1 high claim. Pass direction illustrated on a soccer field graphic.

NOUSSAIR MAZRAOUI – 6

Mazraoui was reliable and adaptable as a right-sided defender, making a great tackle to stop Phil Foden.

He mostly focused on defending against the dangerous Omar Marmoush and did a decent job.

His strengths are more suited to a wing-back role because of his pace and smart play, but he didn`t get to show those qualities much in this game.

Illustration of Noussair Mazraoui's soccer stats: 60 touches, 1 shot, 46 passes, 4 tackles, 1 dribble, and 5 duels won.

HARRY MAGUIRE – 5

Maguire can seem slow, but he is good at tackling, like his early tackle on Omar Marmoush.

His main issue is his passing ability as a central defender. His passes can be unpredictable, and he had the ball a lot in this match.

He was substituted for Victor Lindelof early in the second half, possibly due to a minor injury and with the Europa League game against Lyon in mind.

Illustration of Harry Maguire's match statistics: 39 touches, 0 shots, 31 passes, 2 tackles, 0 dribbles, and 2 duels won. A football pitch shows his touches.

LENY YORO – 6

Yoro is starting to show promise after his £52.2M move from Lille in the summer.

The 19-year-old French player is quickly adapting to the more intense Premier League compared to Ligue 1.

Ruben Amorim likely sees him as a key player in a back-three formation with Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt in the future.

Illustration of Leny Yoro's soccer stats: 54 touches, 44 passes, 0 shots, 0 tackles, 0 dribbles, 0 duels won.

DIOGO DALOT – 6

Dalot embraces the challenges of Ruben Amorim`s 3-4-3 system.

He faced a tough opponent in young Nico O’Reilly initially, but his experience helped him control the situation.

Dalot took up attacking positions when United had possession, and his crosses from the right wing caused problems for City`s defense.

Diogo Dalot's match statistics: touches, shots, passes, tackles, dribbles, and duels won, shown on a heatmap of his playing position.

CASEMIRO – 4

Despite looking better recently, the 33-year-old Casemiro sometimes appeared slow.

His passes from deep positions were inaccurate, causing issues for his teammates, and his partnership with Manuel Ugarte was weak.

He is likely to leave Old Trafford, or at least the starting lineup, next season, even though he has two years left on his £350,000 per week contract.

Illustration of Casemiro's match statistics: 61 touches, 1 shot, 39 passes, 11 tackles, 0 dribbles, and 13 duels won.

MANUEL UGARTE – 4

Ugarte, a £42.1 million signing from Paris Saint-Germain by former manager Erik ten Hag, is still adjusting.

The Uruguayan often lacked the speed needed for the fast transitions demanded by the manager from his central midfielders.

He struggled to make an impact even in a dull derby match.

Illustration of Manuel Ugarte's soccer stats: 31 touches, 3 shots, 22 passes, 2 tackles, 0 dribbles, 3 duels won. Includes a heatmap of his movements on the field.

PATRICK DORGU – 5

Dorgu hasn`t been very impressive since his £25M move from Lecce, and the 20-year-old still needs to improve.

The wing-back provides physical presence on the left, but needs to be more composed when shooting.

One shot in the first half was very poor. He needs to improve his performance.

Patrick Dorgu's soccer stats: touches, shots, passes, tackles, dribbles, and duels won, shown on a heatmap of his playing position.

BRUNO FERNANDES – 8

United’s captain was named Premier League Player of the Match.
