Sources claim Florian Wirtz arrived in the UK today for transfer discussions with Manchester City.
The 22-year-old was a standout player for Bayer Leverkusen last season, a campaign where they unsuccessfully attempted to defend their Bundesliga title.
His impressive form reportedly caught the attention of City manager Pep Guardiola, who is said to see the German international as a potential successor to the outgoing Kevin de Bruyne.
According to German outlet Bild, Wirtz was in England TODAY to talk about a potential transfer to the Etihad Stadium.
Bild reports that City have submitted a `formal offer` to Leverkusen for the midfielder.
The current status of talks between City, Wirtz, and his representatives is not known.
However, Guardiola faces competition for the German star, as Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich are also interested in signing the 22-year-old.
Bayern are looking for a new attacking player following the departure of club icon Thomas Muller.
Their need for a new forward could become more urgent if Leroy Sane decides not to extend his contract at the Allianz Arena in the coming weeks.
Wirtz had a superb season with Leverkusen in the 2024/25 campaign, contributing 16 goals and 15 assists across all competitions.
Last month, Leverkusen officials expressed optimism about keeping Wirtz at the BayArena.
Club CEO Fernando Carro stated: “The chances are very high that he will remain with us after this season.”
He added: “There has been no contact from Bayern Munich about Florian.”
“There is no pain threshold. It could be that a club approaches him,” he continued.
“But if it’s a move he doesn`t want, then that’s a different matter,” Carro concluded.
