The 23-year-old striker was performing well in the game against Newcastle.

However, his match was cut short after halftime at St James` Park.

Zirkzee was visibly in pain, holding his hamstring as Manchester United trailed Newcastle 2-1.

Newcastle player Joelinton assisted Zirkzee, and after receiving medical attention on the field, he had to be helped off by the medical staff.

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim looked concerned on the sidelines following the injury.

Rasmus Hojlund replaced Zirkzee and is now the only available fit striker for Manchester United.

Fans expressed their disappointment on social media about Zirkzee`s injury, especially ahead of the important Europa League match.

Manchester United is set to play against Lyon at Old Trafford on Thursday, with the score tied at 2-2 from the first leg.

Goalkeeper Andre Onana was dropped from the starting lineup for the Newcastle game after his errors in the first leg against Lyon.

Andre Onana did not travel with the team to Newcastle after being replaced in the squad.

The decision to rest Onana came after reports suggested that some teammates wanted him out of the team due to his recent mistakes in the Europa League.

However, Amorim has informed Onana that he is only being rested and will return to the team for the second leg against Lyon.

Altay Bayindir, the Turkish backup goalkeeper, made his Premier League debut in Onana`s place but had a difficult game, conceding goals to Harvey Barnes and Sandro Tonali.

Bayindir`s tough debut continued when his misplaced pass to Joelinton led to Newcastle`s fourth goal, scored by Bruno Guimaraes.
