Liverpool winger Luis Diaz has hinted at a potential surprise move away from Anfield, reportedly valued at £70 million, by confirming he is engaged in discussions with other clubs.
This admission follows Liverpool`s rejection yesterday of an approach from Spanish giants Barcelona regarding the Colombian international.
Despite having two years remaining on his contract with the Reds, Diaz stated: “The market is open and we`re trying to sort out what`s best for us. We`re talking with other clubs. It`s the transfer window, it`s normal.”
He added: “I`m very happy at Liverpool. From day one, they`ve made me feel really welcome.”
However, his subsequent comments indicate uncertainty about his future: “Right now we`re in contact with them because we`re speaking with other clubs. I am just waiting to see what happens. If Liverpool don’t make a good offer, I still have two years left with them, I would be happy to stay there. It’s up to them. I am just waiting to see what happens. Everything depends on them. Obviously, it’s up to me to decide what’s best for the future.”
Diaz`s candid remarks came shortly after Liverpool posted a picture of him on their official social media page, seemingly celebrating his time at the club, a post that has now gained additional significance.
His statement is expected to cause some frustration for newly appointed Liverpool manager Arne Slot as he prepares for his first season.
The 28-year-old was a key player for Liverpool last season, contributing 13 goals and five assists.
He originally joined the club from Porto in January 2022 in a deal potentially worth up to £49 million.
The Colombian international has made 148 appearances for the Reds, scoring 41 goals, and has won the FA Cup and two League Cups during his time at Anfield.
Barcelona`s sporting director, Deco, reportedly contacted Liverpool recently to discuss a potential transfer for Diaz, but was informed that the Merseyside club currently has no intention of selling the player.
Manager Arne Slot is believed to want to retain Diaz as a vital part of his squad for the upcoming campaign.
Barcelona is reportedly keen to integrate Diaz into their attacking lineup alongside players like Raphinha and Lamine Yamal.
He is also understood to be a primary transfer target for Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr.
Adding to the speculation surrounding his future, Diaz`s partner, Gera Ponce, posted an emotional message on Instagram that some fans interpreted as a potential farewell. She wrote: “Thank you for so much love, for so much dedication and for making us feel at home. This is a real bond, deep and strong, that reaffirms we’ll never walk alone.”
