The Tampa Bay Lightning have added promising collegiate player Lucas Mercuri to their roster through a recent trade.
In a deal with the Carolina Hurricanes, the Lightning acquired forward Lucas Mercuri, sending a sixth-round pick in the 2025 draft to Carolina, as officially announced by the team.
The Lightning have also signed Mercuri to a two-year entry-level contract that will commence in the 2025-26 season. For the remainder of the 2024-25 season, he will join the Syracuse Crunch, Tampa Bay`s AHL affiliate, on a tryout basis.
Due to NHL trade deadline rules, Mercuri is ineligible to play for the Lightning in the current season.
Mercuri recently concluded his college hockey season at the University of Massachusetts, where he played 40 games, scoring 10 goals and providing 21 assists for the Minutemen. He also served as an alternate captain.
Over his four years at UMass, the 23-year-old accumulated 28 goals and 57 assists.
Hailing from LaSalle, Quebec, Mercuri was originally drafted by the Hurricanes in the sixth round, 159th overall, of the 2020 NHL Draft.
