Lane Hutson Equals Rookie Defenceman Assist Record

NHL

Lane Hutson concluded his remarkable rookie season by reaching new milestones in his team`s final game.

The Montreal Canadiens standout player tied the NHL record for the most assists by a rookie defenceman in history. He achieved this by assisting on Kaiden Guhle`s second goal during Wednesday`s game against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Hutson equaled Hall of Famer Larry Murphy`s record of 60 assists.

The 21-year-old now has 66 points this season, placing him in a tie for fifth place all-time among rookie defencemen with Phil Housley. Only Gary Suter (68), Brian Leetch (71), and Larry Murphy (76) have recorded more points as rookie defencemen.

Hutson has been instrumental in the Canadiens` turnaround this season. The Michigan native played in all 82 games for Montreal this season and ranks third in team scoring, only behind captain Nick Suzuki and leading scorer Cole Caufield.
