As the NHL`s window for contract buyouts approaches its deadline, two forwards have reportedly been placed on waivers. According to Sportsnet`s Elliotte Friedman, Joe Veleno and Conor Sheary are the players involved.

Conor Sheary, who was with the Tampa Bay Lightning, had one year remaining on his contract with a $2 million cap hit. The 33-year-old veteran forward appeared in only five games during the recent season. His placement on waivers is understood to be a move by the Lightning aimed at creating additional salary cap space.

Joe Veleno was also placed on waivers. He had one year left on the two-year contract valued at $4.55 million that he signed last off-season. Veleno was recently acquired by the Seattle Kraken in a trade that sent Andre Burakovsky to the Chicago Blackhawks.

Last season, Veleno played a combined 74 games for the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks, recording eight goals and 17 points.
