UFC Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones recently stated his interest in potentially facing former divisional kingpin Francis Ngannou inside the octagon, should Ngannou make a return to the promotion.
This declaration comes despite ongoing efforts by UFC management to set up a unification bout between Jones and the current interim champion, Tom Aspinall, which have not yet been successful.
Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Jones elaborated on why a fight with Ngannou holds particular appeal for him:
“I’ve heard that Francis Ngannou is interested in UFC… Now we will talk. This will be a real super-fight. A clash of champions, not just a big hype. He held the UFC title, I defended mine for decades. Two kings from different paths. Not just one legend against a loudmouth who is currently in the spotlight, but a clash of two real legacies.
This is the fight that truly adds something special to my story. At least, that’s how I feel.”
Jones`s comments suggest he views a potential showdown with Ngannou as a legacy-defining event, possibly indicating his preference over the highly anticipated clash with interim champion Aspinall.
