Jamie Carragher suggests that some Arsenal players, including Declan Rice, might question their long-term commitment if the team doesn`t secure a trophy next season.
This opinion from Jamie Carragher is likely to worry Arsenal supporters.
Arsenal`s hopes for silverware this season ended last week when they were eliminated from the Champions League semi-finals by Paris Saint-Germain with a 3-1 aggregate score.
Consequently, they will finish the current season without a trophy.
The ex-Premier League player stated that players at the Emirates could begin to have doubts about staying if the club doesn`t improve its trophy-winning prospects.
When asked on Sky Sports specifically about Declan Rice, Arsenal`s record signing, potentially doubting his future in North London, Carragher responded: “I don`t think right now.”
He suggested this feeling might apply more to other players who have been at the club longer.
Regarding Rice, Carragher believes he has been Arsenal`s top performer this season, but felt that doubts might start appearing in “another 12 months.”
He contrasted this with players like William Saliba, who have been at Arsenal longer and are eager to win trophies.
Currently, he doesn`t believe players are having such thoughts, as they likely feel they are “really close” to success.
While acknowledging they are “very close,” he added that players understand the final step to winning is the most challenging.
Declan Rice`s current contract has three years remaining, while William Saliba, Bukayo Saka, and Gabriel Magalhaes have two years left.
Arsenal is reportedly working to extend the contracts of Saliba, Saka, and Gabriel.
The club has recently begun negotiations with Saliba on a new contract, despite reported interest from Real Madrid.
Negotiations with Saka and Gabriel are also expected to start soon.
