Jack Della Maddalena Discusses Potential Fight Timeline with Islam Makhachev

MMA

Newly crowned UFC welterweight champion Jack Della Maddalena recently commented on the possible timing for a highly anticipated fight against lightweight champion Islam Makhachev.

“I don’t think anyone would have a problem with Islam getting a title shot [at welterweight],” Della Maddalena stated at the press conference following his victory. “I`m sure it`s an annoying situation for Shavkat [Rakhmonov, another top welterweight contender], but that`s the nature of champion-versus-champion bouts – it clearly creates complexity within the division. While this shouldn`t be a frequent occurrence, I believe in Islam`s specific case, it makes sense.”

He elaborated on his readiness, saying, “We need to ensure the division continues to progress. I am hopeful that approximately eight weeks after my recent fight, we could potentially see a new title contest in the welterweight division.”

Della Maddalena`s remarks came shortly after his significant win over Belal Muhammad in the main event of UFC 315, which took place in Montreal, Canada, yesterday, May 11th.
