The Calgary Flames and Connor Zary received positive news Friday morning, offering a collective sigh of relief.
Despite a tough 5-2 loss to the Dallas Stars during their playoff push, the team`s biggest concern shifted to Connor Zary. There were initial fears that Zary had suffered a broken leg following an incident with Mikko Rantanen.
However, according to reports, Zary did not sustain a broken leg. He is scheduled for imaging later Friday. Early indications suggest that the knee injury is not as severe as initially feared.
Zary`s injury occurred during an awkward collision with Rantanen in the third period, forcing him to leave the game and not return.
Midway through the third period, Rantanen lost his footing and slid into Zary along the boards. Zary`s knee seemed to get caught, bending awkwardly as he went down.
The 23-year-old was visibly in pain, clutching his left knee. He remained on the ice while trainers attended to him before teammates assisted him off the ice.
Adding to the concern for the Flames is Zary`s history with knee injuries. He previously suffered a long-term knee injury in January, sidelining him for nearly a month.
This season, the Saskatoon native has contributed 13 goals and 26 points in 53 games.
