The Vegas Golden Knights achieved a dramatic victory over the Edmonton Oilers in Game 3, winning in the final seconds, but they accomplished this without their captain.
Mark Stone was notably absent for the final 6 minutes and 20 seconds of the first period during the game against the Oilers and was not seen on the bench.
Early in the second period, Vegas officially announced that Stone would not return to the contest due to an upper-body injury.
The precise moment of the injury is not clear, but it involved incidental head contact with the knee of Oilers forward Corey Perry, after which Stone appeared to be in discomfort.
Stone`s ice time totaled 5:54. During this time, he registered one shot on goal and finished with a minus-one rating.
Following the Golden Knights` narrow 4-3 victory, Head Coach Bruce Cassidy told the media that Stone`s injury status is day-to-day.
Losing the 32-year-old captain for any additional games would be a significant setback for the Golden Knights. Stone currently leads the team in playoff goals with four goals in eight games and ranks second only to Jack Eichel in total postseason points, also with eight.
