Gaethje Considers Ending Career Without Title Shot, Manager States

MMA

Ali Abdel-Aziz, manager for former UFC interim lightweight champion Justin Gaethje, has voiced strong dissatisfaction regarding his client not receiving a championship opportunity. Abdel-Aziz indicated that Gaethje is exceptionally unhappy with the current situation.

A fight for the currently vacant lightweight title is scheduled for UFC 317 on June 28th in Las Vegas, where Ilia Topuria and Charles Oliveira will compete for the belt.

Abdel-Aziz argued emphatically that Gaethje is the rightful contender to face the winner of the Topuria vs. Oliveira bout. He underscored Gaethje`s recent performance and commitment to the promotion, stating, “He has won three out of his last four fights, twice saving the UFC. When he was needed, he was there. This guy has done a lot for the sport. If anyone says he doesn’t deserve a title shot…”

Abdel-Aziz then relayed Gaethje`s definitive stance on his future: “He said: `If I do not fight for the title, I will just end my career.`” The manager further described Gaethje`s character, adding, “Gaethje is a very principled person. He takes this very seriously,” during an interview with Submission Radio.
