Four Players Set to Depart West Ham This Summer

Football

West Ham United has confirmed that four senior players will leave the club when their current contracts expire at the end of the season.

Despite having three matches left to play in the current campaign, which sees the team sitting in 17th place in the Premier League table with nine wins, the club has made the decision public.

The players confirmed to be leaving East London are veteran defender Aaron Cresswell, goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski, defender Vladimir Coufal, and striker Danny Ings. Their deals conclude next month.

All four players are expected to remain available for selection for the remaining fixtures. Their final appearance at the London Stadium is scheduled for May 18 against Nottingham Forest.

West Ham manager Graham Potter paid tribute to the departing quartet, praising their professionalism and experience. He stated: “Aaron, Lukasz, Vladimir, and Danny have all been a pleasure to work with during my time here so far. They are all brilliant professionals, both on and off the pitch, with fantastic Premier League experience, and are clearly loved and admired by their teammates and everyone at the Club.”

Potter added: “We still have three important matches ahead of us this season, and I know their full focus will be on helping the team in any way they can in those games. We felt it was important to confirm this news now, however, out of respect for them and the service they have given to the Club, and to allow our supporters to show their appreciation at our final home match of the season.”

Aaron Cresswell, a genuine club legend, is the longest-serving player among those departing. The 35-year-old defender has represented the Hammers 365 times, scoring 11 goals.

He joined the club in 2014 from Ipswich Town in a £4 million deal and featured eight times during West Ham`s successful Europa League campaign in the 2022/23 season.

Cresswell also earned three caps for the England national team between 2016 and 2017 and was recognised as both Hammer of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year in 2015.

Goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski, aged 40, arrived at West Ham in 2018 from Swansea City for £7 million.

He has since made 215 appearances in all competitions for the club and previously won the FA Cup with Arsenal in 2014.

Defender Vladimir Coufal, 32, signed for the Hammers in 2020 from Slavia Prague for £5.5 million and has featured 173 times in total.

He has made 15 league appearances this season.

Finally, striker Danny Ings is also set to move on, two-and-a-half years after joining from Aston Villa in a £15 million transfer. His time at the London Stadium was unfortunately impacted by injuries, limiting him to five goals in 69 matches.
