Christian Fischer has decided to conclude his professional hockey career.
The 28-year-old forward announced he is retiring from the National Hockey League.
Fischer stated his decision is primarily about transitioning to a different phase of his life. He expressed sincere gratitude for the career he had, noting there wasn`t one specific major reason for stepping away at this time.
The forward also shared that his future plans include venturing into a business opportunity within the golf industry, though he did not provide further specifics.
Fischer was originally drafted by the Arizona Coyotes in the second round, 32nd overall, in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.
He made his NHL debut as a 19-year-old the following season and spent parts of seven seasons with the Coyotes organization.
Subsequently, Fischer played for parts of two seasons with the Detroit Red Wings. In March, he was placed on waivers and claimed by the Columbus Blue Jackets, appearing in one game for the team.
Throughout his career, Fischer played in 523 NHL regular-season games, accumulating 62 goals and 75 assists. He developed a reputation as a reliable bottom-six right winger.
His only appearance in the Stanley Cup Playoffs came in 2020 with the Coyotes, where he recorded one assist in nine games.
Reflecting on reaching the 500-game milestone in the NHL, Fischer commented that if he had known this as a 10-year-old, he would have been incredibly happy.
