Niko Mikkola`s actions led to a financial penalty.

The Florida Panthers defenseman has been fined $5,000, the maximum amount under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, for unsportsmanlike conduct. This penalty is due to an incident during a game against the Montreal Canadiens, as announced by the player safety department on Monday.

Following the final buzzer of Sunday`s game, which the Canadiens won 4-2 against the Panthers, Mikkola shot a slapshot towards Montreal`s goal from his own defensive zone. The puck nearly hit Canadiens defenseman David Savard.

The Montreal Canadiens players reacted negatively to this action, leading to a scrum. Niko Mikkola was the only player to receive additional punishment from this incident.

The Panthers and Canadiens are scheduled to play again on Tuesday.
