Flames Captain Mikael Backlund Ready to Play Against Stars

NHL

Calgary Flames fans will be happy to hear their captain, Mikael Backlund, will be back on the ice when they face the Dallas Stars.

Mikael Backlund announced to reporters on Thursday morning that he is ready to rejoin Calgary`s lineup. He has been sidelined for the past six games due to an upper-body injury.

The injury occurred on March 12 in a game against the Vancouver Canucks. Backlund was hurt after delivering a hit to Canucks defenseman Victor Mancini.

In his last game before the injury, Backlund played only a few shifts in the first period.

This season, Backlund has contributed 11 goals and 13 assists in 64 games.

Coach Ryan Huska mentioned that Rasmus Andersson was absent from the morning skate but confirmed he will be playing against the Stars.

As they head into Thursday`s game, the Flames are chasing a wild-card spot in the Western Conference, trailing the St. Louis Blues by four points with three games in hand.
