Eddie Howe’s Pneumonia Recovery: Newcastle Manager to Miss More Games

Newcastle United have confirmed that manager Eddie Howe is recovering from pneumonia.

The 47-year-old was hospitalized on Friday night after being unwell and missing his scheduled pre-match press conference.

He was absent from Sunday`s game against Manchester United at St James` Park, with assistant coach Jason Tindall taking charge of the team.

Newcastle United has announced that Howe remains in hospital due to pneumonia.

The club stated that he will not be present for the upcoming matches against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa as he continues his recovery.

The official statement from Newcastle United said: "Eddie Howe is recovering in hospital after being diagnosed with pneumonia.

"The club sends its best wishes and support to Eddie and his family during his recovery.

"Jason Tindall and Graeme Jones will manage the team for the Crystal Palace and Aston Villa games this week. Further updates will be provided in due course."

Eddie Howe released his own statement expressing gratitude to the hospital staff and well-wishers.

He stated: "A huge thank you to everyone connected with Newcastle United and the football community for their kind messages. They mean a lot to me and my family.

"I also want to thank the incredible NHS and the hospital staff who are looking after me.

"I am very grateful for the expert care I am receiving and I am looking forward to returning as soon as possible after a period of recovery."

Bruno Guimaraes dedicated Newcastle’s 4-1 victory over Manchester United on Sunday to Howe.

He said: "Before the game, we said, ‘We’ll play for him’.

"He has been amazing for us. We missed his presence in training.

"Hopefully, this win made him happy and he will be back for the next match. It’s been a difficult week for him."

Harvey Barnes added: "He is on the path to recovery, hopefully. He is a very influential figure throughout the week.

"We knew we had a job to do without him. We wanted to put a smile on his face before the game."

It is possible that Howe could be back in the dugout for Newcastle`s game against Ipswich next Saturday.
