The Anaheim Ducks have traded their longtime goaltender, John Gibson, to the Detroit Red Wings. The team announced the deal on Saturday, bringing an end to Gibson`s 12-year tenure with the Ducks organization.

In exchange for Gibson, the Ducks receive goaltender Petr Mrazek, along with a second-round draft pick in 2027 and a fourth-round pick in 2026.

Last season, Gibson appeared in 29 games, where he posted a record of 11-11-2 with a .912 save percentage and a 2.77 goals-against average. Both statistics marked his best performance since the 2018-19 season.

Petr Mrazek, who is 33 years old, was on the Red Wings roster at the time of the trade, having previously been acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks. While with Detroit, he made five starts, recording a 2-2 record, a 2.49 goals-against average, and a .902 save percentage.

Throughout his NHL career, Mrazek has played in 428 games, accumulating a record of 180-176-40 with a career 2.85 GAA and a .906 save percentage. His career has included stops with the Carolina Hurricanes, Philadelphia Flyers, Toronto Maple Leafs, Chicago Blackhawks, and Detroit Red Wings.

Gibson, a 31-year-old native of Pittsburgh, was originally drafted by the Ducks in the second round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

He made his debut during the 2013-14 season and has consistently been a key part of Anaheim`s goaltending tandem, appearing in 500 games for the franchise over the years, despite experiencing various injuries.

Gibson has two more seasons remaining on his current contract, which carries an annual average value (AAV) of $6.4 million.

This transaction appears to reinforce Anaheim`s ongoing commitment to building around younger players. With Gibson`s departure, 24-year-old Lukas Dostal is now expected to step into the role of the team`s primary starting goaltender.

The Ducks are currently positioned 12th in the Western Conference standings, having accumulated 54 points in 54 games, and are considered to be well outside of the playoff picture.
