Football

Crystal Palace has announced the release of 20 players following their significant 2024-25 season.

The Eagles had a noteworthy campaign, which culminated in qualification for the Europa League, though their participation remains uncertain.

However, the club is now saying goodbye to a significant number of players as they prepare for the next season.

As previously confirmed, veteran defender Joel Ward is departing Selhurst Park after 13 years with the club.

The 35-year-old made 364 appearances for Palace since his move from Portsmouth.

However, a calf injury restricted him to only three appearances in his final year.

Jeffrey Schlupp`s departure has also been confirmed after spending eight-and-a-half years at the club.

The official Premier League website lists several other players also leaving on free transfers, including Cormac Austin, Chris Francis, Roshaun Mathurin, Louie Moulden, Kurainashe Musanhi, David Obou, Killian Phillips, Luke Plange, Jadan Raymond, Joe Sheridan, and Jack Wells-Morrison.

Chimaechi Eze, brother of key player Eberechi Eze, is also among those released on a free transfer.

Additional players released by Palace include Freddie Cowin, William Eastwood, Joseph Khoshaba, Enruque Lameiras, Finley Marjoram, and Caleb Redhead.

Despite securing qualification for next season`s Europa League, the club faces the possibility of being excluded from the competition.

This is due to John Textor holding stakes in both Crystal Palace and Olympique Lyonnais, with both clubs having qualified.

UEFA regulations on multi-club ownership prohibit two clubs controlled by the same individual or group from participating in the same UEFA competition.

A decision regarding Palace`s eligibility for the Europa League is anticipated by the end of June.
